ART: Takashi Murakami

I am a big fan of Murakami’s work, he is most famous for his work with Louis Vuitton, Pharrell Williams and Kanye West.

One of my favourite pieces of art work by Murakami is actually the single cover for Kanye West – Can’t Tell Me Nothing

Kanye West X Takeshi Murakami

The colours and effects really compliment each other on this stand-out piece, the central image is well created and it’s construction provides a lot of depth, it is far more than an arrangement of colourful swirls.

This ‘Geno’ piece, highlights Murakami’s intense detail and choice of potent colours, the beauty of such work is that they speak volumes, the clusters of colours and shapes, they create the bigger picture, the symbolism is vividly embedded as Murakami offers his portrayal of life.

The idea of the bright and attractive as the evil trapping us, in the form of a monster-like character, it is his unique style of portrayal which places Takashi Murakami among the elite in art.

He recently collaborated with Pharrell Williams, to create a piece representing the real value of items we take for granted.

The sculpture titled ‘The Simple Things’, was created with the help of ‘Jacob The Jeweler’ (Jacob & Co.), featuring seven consumer objects that Pharrell Williams considers important to him, such as a cupcake, a bag of Doritos, a bottle of Heinz ketchup, a Pepsi can, a sneaker, a condom, and a bottle of Johnson’s baby oil, all created with gold and encrusted with 26,000 rubies, sapphires, emeralds, and diamonds by Jacob. The objects/items are all placed in the mouth of the Murakami sculpture. ‘The Simple Things’ sold for €2 million ($2.8 million). An extremely expensive piece of art created to show the true value of items that we take for granted.

Takashi Murakami is an established and world-reknowned artist who is also one of the few to expand into fashion and music with his innovative and inspiring art.

British Graffiti artist ‘Banksy’

banksy-rat-nyc

Above is an example of Banksy’s work, a Graffiti artist from England, as OneFáris continues to grow, I am able to let you into more of my world, before music I drew, from scribbles to sketches, I could draw before I could speak. Like music, Art is a form of expression, the same way I write, it is somebody transending their passion and emotion through a varying form for others to view, understand, listen and enjoy.

As I recently went to New York, this piece really captures more than one thinks, but without looking so deep into it, it is pure genius, I love the expression on the Rat’s face whilst clutching the pencil, along with the image of a mouse that the rat has supposedly drawn. Banksy’s work is very symbolic, with Graffiti artists considered to be ruining the city, when rather they love their city (hence the ‘I heart NY T-shirt) and see the walls as canvas for expression of themselves.

Here are some more of Banksy’s work:

This piece a far more serious subject but a truthful one none the less, the manner in which the ‘white collar’ rat is leaving with his case full of money, “Let Them Eat Crack” as he looks back, the detail on the rat is amazing, Banksy can really give them character with his details, just compare the two rats and see how different the extracted feelings are.

“sometimes even a still image can be moving” – Fáris

This is what I mean, an image of the symbol of Peace, a white dove with the olive branch, Banksy manages to use the dove wearing a bulletproof vest as a metaphor of peace under attack, the gun scope aiming at the dove, it’s heart almost, it is art work such as this, that highlights the troubles in the world today, this piece is Banksy’s expression, he may not be able to go and stop it but he can definitely highlight it in a creative form.

Look out for more, not just from Bansky but from OneFáris’ world of Art.
