Devlin – London City

Devlin has been a prominent fixture in the ever rising Grime scene, considered as Ghetts’ protege, Devlin is one of the founding members of the highly respected and even feared collective, ‘The Movement’ along with Wretch 32, Mercston, Ghetts and Scorcher. Numerous mixtapes, verses, freestyles and features kept his name within talk of the future of the scene, for a while though as artists began to establish themselves further, we did not hear much from Devlin.

Until now:

Devlin returns with an anthem for the city, a feel good song that feels as real as it sounds, lyrically honest, Devlin manages to capture the atmosphere well, it reminds me of The Streets – Blinded By The Lights, only in the sense that it’s a night out track but slow in tempo, it tells a story, almost as if your with Devlin on a night out in London City.

The video compliments the song well, directed by Digital Dan, one of the hardest working directors in the scene, putting Devlin into the spotlight, capturing him well with landscapes of London, to be honest, like the London Eye and Big Ben we should be proud of Devlin and the quality he possesses as an artist. Cameos from Ghetts, Griminal & Lil’ Nasty add a certain level of excitement, Ghetts has taken both Devlin and Griminal under his wing as he helps to establish the two undoubtly talents, it adds to the song and videos feel good vibe.

London City, is a great track as Devlin makes a return to the scene, to claim his spot as one of the best the UK has to offer.

G – FrSH – Afar ft. Tinie Tempah & Deniro from D-Fam (Official Video)

Recently reviewed this track, I highlighted the unique factor that it possesses and the video just emphasizes my point even more, as the video itself is a quality production.

Directed by none other than Jak Frsh, one of the best directors in the country (his portfolio of previous work proves it). The quality is reminiscent of the mainstream standard videos from the So Solid Crew, this however takes things to a higher platform, with the POV (point of view) style sequences, the special effects compliment the visuals as the synths do for the audio. I like the blend of styles within, as it keeps you watching, almost as if you’re there with them. The best thing about this video is that it compliments the song extremely well, just like G-FrSH raises the standard from his last single (Do It), so does this video. With cameos from heavyweights such as Wretch 32 and Scorcher, both G and Tinie Tempah’s performances and the quality of the video itself, Afar should help FrSH entertainment go even higher as they set a new standard.

Fáris Rating:
9/10

“Cos She Knows I’m That Guy, She Knows Who I Are, I’m Sippin’ On My Drink And I’m Just Watchin’ from Afar, I Watch Her While She Laughs, I Watch Her When She Dance, The DJs Playin’ Funky, But Shes Got Me In A Trance, She Knows I Can’t Tech (Take) – No, No..For An Answer..”

Bashy – Ransom ft. Scorcher & Wretch 32

A little while back, an image of British artist Bashy emerged, he appeared to have cuts and bruises, awareness was initially made when a Facebook message from Bashy’s fan page was sent, the message was apparently from an angry Bashy who had been attacked, the name Terry Ambrose was mentioned heavily, many believed that Bashy had indeed been attacked.

The image appeared again, courtesy of Urban entertainment’s finest duo, Ace & Vis, who posted the picture on their blog but with a less worrying caption.

Not much was said about this image for a while, Bashy’s blog continued as normal, a new post showing an image of an equation featuring ‘Bashy, Wretch 32, Scorcher + A black van’. Bashy then posted the image of his with the cuts and bruises, many now believed that this a real incident that took place.

Now, a new song and accompanying video has been posted for a track titled Ransom, featuring Scorcher & Wretch 32. This shows that the alledged attack was really a hoax and more so publicity for this new song, talk was always there as many fans have felt that Bashy would lose respect if it is indeed a publicity stunt, but after watching the video, I really cannot say anything but WELL DONE to Bashy, he has put out probably one of the best track and video I have seen in a while, subject wise it is as real and gripping as Kidulthood to Adulthood, even better to be honset.

‘Ransom’ is a display of three of the UK’s premier artists, both as emcees and actors even, Scorcher and Wretch 32 are suprisingly as natural as actors as the are rappers, the fact that is a Part One (it is part of a feature film) has me eager to see more, the three put in one hell of a performance, Scorcher is a highlight on this song, for some reason his tone and persona dominates over the beat, Bashy and Wretch 32 match it well, the video visualises the song to it’s best ability.

As a movie, the earlier message and images of Bashy’s alledged attack unfold as Ashley ‘Bashy’ Thomas actually plays the character of Terry Ambrose, featuring Tayo ‘Scorcher’ Jarret as ‘Junior’, Jermaine ‘Wretch 32’ Scott has a double role as ‘Frankie’ and Terry Ambrose’s Co-D ‘Terry’. As a movie ‘Ransom’ delivers a hard-hitting storyline with great detail, great performers with great delivery, a certified ‘one to watch’ as it is captivating and will undoubtly amaze audiences when seen.

Scorcher – I Know

After North London’s Wretch 32 silenced critics with the release of his album ‘Wretchrospective’ (It’s a Classic..Trust me!!), the time is now for fellow emcee ‘Scorcher‘ to unleash his talent upon the mainstream.

It is a tough challenge to create a radio-friendly song whilst maintaining street credibility at the same time, however, with his first single ‘I Know’ Scorcher has dealt with the challenge almost effortlessly.

‘I Know’ is one of the most versatile tracks to come out of the UK for a long time, expect to hear it on the radio, your friends ipod, the club and on your TV! A pacey track armed with a mean synth, layered over one of the most hypnotic drum patterns, this might as well be considered as a map to the mainstream, once there, the charismatic Scorcher’s talent itself will help him unlock and enter to gain the recognition he truly deserves.

Not much has to be said as the video says it all, good song, great video, impressive but expected from such a prospect, the past has shown glimmers of what to expect and now with the release of his album ‘Concrete Jungle’ on the way, i guess the sky is not even the limit for the Sky walker himself.
