N-Dubz – Na Na ft. Skepta

The UK’s favourite Trio celebrate their platinum success with what can only be described as another ‘anthem’.

From Camden to California, amidst news of Ndubz signing to a major label to be launched stateside (another step in their plans for Global dominance), this track comes a treat for new and old fans alike, featuring Boy Better Know’s Skepta, who recently celebrated a top 20 chart position (as an independant artist) with his single ‘Bad Boy’.

‘Na Na’, is a up-tempo record blending the raw street sound and commercial glitter that Ndubz have been so successful at creating thus far, with the added feature of the BBK General, this UK combo has found itself on heavy rotation on TV.

For me, the record justifies many statements which I have made in the past, for example, highlighting Dappy as more than just a ‘rapper’, his self belief, enthusiasm and attitude itself forms his character which he so easily yet smartly converts into his music, many take it as a gimmick, however, his success silences any notion, along with Tulisa who like Dappy is creating her own presence within the industry as well as Fazer, who i believe is holding back and many are yet to see what he is capable of.

Skepta has been delivering some exciting music of late with his take on commercial music, offering the classic underground delivery we as an audience are accustomed to fused with a more polished sounding production, his feature therefore adds depth and even an extra excitement to the track itself as the self proclaimed ‘Microphone Champion’ is let loose to do damage on the beat.

Having seen the rise from humble begginnings and watching the consistency and dedication both Ndubz & BBK have put in, one can only feel proud and wish them even more success.

Lowkey – Something Wonderful

A man who uses his talents for the good, somebody who wants more from life than money and fame, somebody who wants to make a change, that somebody is UK’s own, Lowkey, one of the most gifted artists with his mind in the right place, here is his new single, the captivating, Something Wonderful:

Something Wonderful is quitely simply a beautiful song, it speaks for itself in volumes, it is an honest record (something you can always expect from Lowkey), it is a positive record and most of all it has a meaning, his ever-growing fanbase will love this as will new listeners. An ode to the female, Lowkey has come into more prominence recently and has not stopped to enjoy the accomplishments but rather work harder in order to acheive his goal, as a person he is humble and honest, I can only support and offer praise for such a person, especially when the music being created is so powerful and even comforting.

Having already topped the Amazon download charts, with Long Live Palestine, surpassing the likes of Jay-Z, Eminem and the Black Eyed Peas in doing so, he has shown that you can still have a career and a following despite a lack of help from the media and corporates.

Continue to support the rightous rapper, as he continues to deliver quality and honest music.

Skepta – Bad Boy

Bad Boy is the new single from Boy Better Know’s self proclaimed ‘Microphone Champion’, better known as Skepta.

With this record, Skepta has provided an all-round anthem for a broader range of audiences, it sounds good on radio, sounds great in the club and even through your headphones, Skepta does not use any vocal enhancers, nor makes any major changes to adapt to a commercial sound, instead it is just a well constructed track that feels natural, with Skepta’s distinct style neatly fused into the track, it is no surprise why Bad Boy record has reached way over 200,000 views on youtube.

A lot of people will criticize and expect a more underground sounding Skepta, until those people put their money where their mouth is and actually purchase the records, they should expect this, even then I feel this is a great UK record, as if you cannot help but to sing along, I’ve always been one to deminish stereotypes and this song does that and happens to be catchy whilst doing so, definitely looking forward to more hits from Skepta as he continues this surge of good music.

The video is courtesy of Staplehouse with fellow North London artist Scorcher continuing upon his recent success as a Director, he really has come a long way in such a short space of time and this video fully justifies his credentials, along with the rest of the Staplehouse team, who help create a great visual for a potentially huge track.

TAZ – back to business..

I (like many others) remember Taz from Dizzee Rascal’s Just A Rascal as well as his own release, Cowboy Film:

With the above record, Taz reached out to Canada’s own Kardinal Offishal, this was a first for UK music, especially within the urban genres, it was clearly a step in the right direction and something that deserves more praise than he is actually credited for, there was also a very entertaining remix featuring an early verse from Sway.

Taz has been busy behind the scenes, but has recently surfaced a long with a wave of new music and much more.

As part of DMT:

as well as his collaborations with Carl Cani:

A member of the BASCA (British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors), Taz has signed a distribution deal with Las Vegas based, ‘On Blast Entertainment’ and is now preparing for a Taz and Carni London to Las Vegas Uni Tour (with support from NUS, PRS, Money Clothing and Dark N Cold clothing), Starting 25th Feb – 7th April.

Carl Cani’s debut single On 2 Me was a success making it onto the Mtv Top 10, so now pushing for Carl Cani’s second single, ‘Boasy Pose’ out in April, hoping it can surpass the first single’s acheivements.

Look out for more from Taz and DMT, as well as a video coming soon for the club banger ‘Take Your Time’.

A-List – Midnight Lover

If you have not heard already, A-List is the new UK ‘super’ group created by and featuring Wiley, along side Mz Bratt, J2K, Wrigley, Shola Ama, Brazen, Kivanc & Sadie Ama.

There is a lot of hype surrounding the project, Wiley himself has high hopes and tipped the group for huge success in the coming future, here is the first single from their project:

A-List – Midnight Lover:

After a few listens, I still have the same opinion, i reckon with the right video and marketing this could meet the expectations set by Wiley himself, the stand out for me is the chorus, Wiley creates the perfect urban-mainstream cross over chorus, it has an urban foundation with its lyrics and delivery, however its layout and tone offers a mainstream impact, incredibly infectious, it is the single’s strongest point. In all honesty, the verses did not impress me amazingly, however Wrigley’s verse has already caught on, as will the rest i’m sure, another strong point is the variation in vocals, delivery and styles, it offers the song much needed depth. With the right support this could be the start of something special.

I respect Wiley’s initiative to create something new and refreshing amonst the scene, as somebody who thrives on breaking stereotypes and pushing quality music to a larger audience that it deserves, I can see the benefits of this project if executed correctly.

Expect a lot more from Wiley & A-List as the UK urban scene continues to elevate to newer hights.

Mclean – My Name (Official Video)

Continuing from the success of his debut ‘Broken’, Mclean returns with his second single, ‘My Name’

A staggering 20,000,000 hits have been counted over various network and sharing sites (eg. youtube & myspace) for his debut single ‘Broken’, so obviously there is some expectation on this second offering. Listening to the track, I sense two vibes being forced together, which in this case works, Mclean has more versatility in his voice than he is credited for and it is that element which makes this song work, it becomes a more commercially polished neo-soul record, the production has a distinct UK feel to it, which combined with Mclean’s vocals offers the record a more global feel.

The video, featuring an adaptation of the famous Katherine Zeta-Jones ‘Laser’ scene in the movie Entrapment, the quality like his previous video is outstanding, on a personal level, I felt the song could have deserved a better treatment, however the shots make up for it, Mclean provides a presence on screen as well on record and his mature sound is something that has been recently missing within modern music.

I’m glad that this has been chosen as the second single as it is something different as far as putting out two slow-tempo records in comparison to the conventional dance record with a high profile cross-over feature.

For the more up beat music lovers, here are two official remixes for the new single:

My Name (Remix) ft. Scorcher

My Name (Remix) ft. Boy Better Know

Dice FrSH – Gucci Belt ft. G-FrSH

Although many have not heard of Dice FrSH, this tune will definitely change that, featuring G-FrSH and produced by UK’s soon to be superproducer Wizzy Wow, Gucci Belt is set to take the lavish trend to a whole new level with everyone wanting to get themselves a Gucci Belt to rock to this.

Dice FrSH brags effortlessly over this Wizzy Wow banger, the beat consists of a Indian tabla-sounding drum, cleverly aligned with a consistent rimshot smothered by the intense synth pattern, an almost signature from the North London producer. Dice goes in, although the title suggests differently, this track is more than just a dedication to a belt, it is the track for the lifestyle. What I like best about Gucci Belt is the fact that you do not know what to expect, the beat is unique, Dice’s voice sounds new to ear which is always refreshing when it comes to music and G-FrSH’s flow was so unexpected, yet good, he always seems to impress me even more everytime i hear him.

Gucci Belt, along with the soon to come video, will be a big track for the summer, with many underground tracks considered negative and encouraging violence, this is proof that it is not the case, this is an underground club smash!!

WizzyWow & Tippaly present: Baileys & Passports

As the new year comes ever so closer, the spacey hitmaker Mr WizzyWow and his partner in rhyme Tippaly have decided to unleash the long awaited mixtape earlier than scheduled.

Click cover for FREE download

In all honesty this download is so fresh that I am still listening to it as I type,
the intro is not just for the mixtape, but an introduction for Tippaly, who makes the most of the opportunity with his unique style, he has a stand out voice and with his own range of wordplay he makes an impression, Wizzy wow steps up for Blame It On The Baileys, setting the scene and overall concept of this mixtape.
Hottest In The Hood has them flowing over the beat like only they can, it serves as a starter for your ears before the infectious Hands In The Air, where the duo go back and forth with lyrics and plenty of that Space Boy swagger all over the beat.
Run This Town brings you back down to Earth as they both have a verse each allowing you to distinguish their styles and approach before Tippaly goes solo over Let The Beat Build, this track is the boarding lounge before the take off which is Wizzy Wow – Eyes On Me ft. Tips, now flying at a comfortably high altitude with Miss London, Wizzy’s trademark flow and hook over a nicely layered beat, complete with synths.

Throw It In The Bag must have been a favoured instrumental because Tippaly displays a lyrical ability that you may not have known he possessed and then just when you feel you’ve heard the best, Wizzy Wow matches the flow and lyricism for an overall ‘dope’ UK take on the Fabolous & Drake track. Next track is Pop Music, which is not actually what the track says, however it is WizzyWow’s version of the genre, take it as a glimpse into what to expect, the synth-based chart sound from the North London producer, now the flight has to land at some point and Wizz jumps on the Maybach Music 2 beat, Rick Ross and Justice League made a classic, the man formerly known as Y.Wizz does not dissapoint, the next track is Tippaly taking stage on the powerful Lemme Get On Ya, so far the mixtape is fully focused on the concept and it is a good listen with its variation of styles, this is proven with the next track, WizzyWow over The Dream’s Rockin’ That instrumental, it feels like an interlude before the next track Can’t Beleive It, giving up the autotune, Wizzy gets his rap game on alongside Tippaly, they both flow over the beat with a motion that can only be described as ocean cool (they get wavey).

The concept and theme is female orientated, so it is only right to give them a little more with Valentines, the slow paced smooth talk song before they put their spin on Dirty Money’s Love Come Down beat (put your speakers up for this one)..They really go for it with this, a consistent flow and slick content makes this one of the stand out tracks off the mixtape especially as it features Cell22 and one of the most underrated artists in the game..North London’s Calibar.
Say Something serves as an outro, nicely done as well, featuring Ivy London, they put some space age flavour onto Timbaland’s instrumental, each one does not dissapoint and it nicely brings the mixtape to an end but by now you would have already pressed play on track 1 again.
