Mobo Awards controversy

The Mobo Awards appeared to be a successful event, it was a proud moment for the UK, watching the opening performance by Tinchy Stryder (with a feature from Ndubz’s Dappy), another by Chipmunk and DJ Ironik, JLS and Ndubz, you could sense the atmosphere, the british acts were claiming their position, however, even though JLS won (two), Chipmunk returned to win another, Ndubz won two awards, I was dissapointed that Sean Paul won best Reggae Artist when there were more deserving acts nominated, Bashy and Master Shortie were the two unsigned acts and I felt it would be a big acheivement for them if they won, especially Bashy as he has come a long way since his early grime mixtape days. The biggest controversy however, was the fact that Tinchy Stryder and Dizzee Rascal did not win, based on a voting system it was strange and surprising that despite the success of the UK artists, two time Number 1 charting, Tinchy Stryder who also had the Number 2 album in the country did not win, nor did three time Number 1 charting (in a row) Dizzee Rascal.

Keri Hilson who was co-presenting won as well as Beyonce, I wish I was there, I would have done a ‘Kanye’ and made my point clear, maybe next time.

I think we have taken a big step, we expected or felt that we deserved more for the clear domination that we have had on the charts this year, I was even more so annoyed that Taio Cruz came on to support Keri Hilson and sung Ne-Yo’s part for her single Knock Me Down (when he is a talented writer himself), again, maybe this is a smaller step than we thought and as long as we continue making good music and remaining consistent with our chart domination then we will scale further heights, still you cannot help but to feel for Tinchy Stryder who really deserved some recognition for his acheivements.

Until next years awards..

KANYE WEST ..How Could You Be So Heartless?

Okay, so I know there is a lot of talk about this, it is not the first time Kanye Has done something outragious at an awards show, to be honest we expect it now, it has entertainment values, However, surely he crossed the line this time.

I am a Kanye West fan, therefore I am dissapointed, Taylor Swift did not deserve it, you see how genuinely happy she was to receive her first VMA award, Beyonce has a fair few already, regardless, I just think that Kanye West has let the accolades get to him, it is strange because on one side it was complete wrong, on the other I understand that Kanye is extremely passionate about his music and he is not afraid to voice an opinion, maybe his approach could have been far better, with fame and success comes a lot of responsibility, he can be forgiven but he has forever tarnished Taylor Swift’s ‘moment’.

He has apologised but that is up to Taylor Swift to accept, you have to admit that the random outburst does possess some comical value and who knows all this publicity that it is getting, maybe Mr West has done Taylor a favour, sympathy could lead to boosted record sales.

In response to his behavior, Kanye issued the following apology on his blog this morning:

“I’m sooooo sorry to Taylor Swift and her fans and her mom [Andrea]. I spoke to her mother right after and she said the same thing my mother would’ve said. She is very talented! I like the lyrics about being a cheerleader and she’s in the bleachers!

I’m in the wrong for going on stage and taking away from her moment! Beyonce’s video was the best of this decade!!! I’m sorry to my fans if I let you guys down!!!!! I’m sorry to my friends at MTV. I will apologize to Taylor 2mrw. Welcome to the real world!!!! Everybody wanna booooo me but I’m a fan of real pop culture!!! No disrespect but we watchin’ the show at the cribe right now cause.

I’m still happy for Taylor!!!! Boooyaawww!!!! You are very talented!!!!! I gave my awards to Outkast when they deserved it over me… That’s what it is!!!! I’m not crazy yall, I’m just real. Sorry for that!!! I really feel bad for Taylor and I’m sincerely sorry!!! Much Respect!!!!!”

Mario – Break Up ft. Gucci Mane & Sean Garrett

After gaining major recognition worldwide with his single ‘Let Me Love You’ (Written by a then unknown Ne-Yo), Mario never really managed to maintain his status, issues with the release of his last album did not help. None the less, his talent is unquestionable as he returns putting those problems (including his mother’s drug addiction) behind with his new offering ‘Break Up’.

Produced by Bangladesh (Lil’ Wayne – A Millie and Beyonce – Diva), this R&B cut possesses that old school R&B feel that has been missing whilst sounding brand new, featuring Sean Garret aka The Pen (having written for Usher – Yeah, Chris Brown – Run It and Beyonce – Upgrade U to name a few) and rising underground rapper Gucci Mane (who helps balance the R&B levels with his raw, street style), Break Up will most definitely help push the trio to newer heights, especially Sean Garret who due to a lack of promotion saw the poor sales of his debut effort Turbo 919 (Which is a good album so make sure you check that out).

Mario’s return displays a more mature artist attempting to create good music rather than his next hit, with dedication like this it will not be long before he gets another smash, with Break Up rising in the charts, who knows..he may find it sooner than he thinks.

Sef – Takin’ Over

I do not understand how people still do not know about Sef, undoubtedly one of the best singers in the country, so I decided to share more with you all.

He originally broke onto the scene as part of the phenomenon that is So Solid Crew, he is now part of Music Kidz (founded by Mr Shabz, the producer behind many of So Solid’s hits including ‘Haters‘) who are signed to Jay-Z’s ROC Nation.

A new album from Sef is on the way, the first single is Need A Hero (video to be filmed soon), not many people know but Sef was signed to Atlantic records and has worked with the likes of Platinum selling Robin Thicke and singer/songwriter Sean Garret (who has written for Chris Brown, Janet Jackson, Usher, Britney Spears and Beyonce to name a few), so the talent he possesses cannot be denied.

This track is titled Takin’ Over,
