DRAKE – FOREVER ft. Kanye West, Lil’ Wayne & Eminem

The 2009 Monster anthem, taken from the soundtrack for NBA MVP LeBron James’ new movie receives the Hype treatment for it’s new video.

This is definitely something special, a momentus occasion in Hip-Hop, Drake has a buzz like no other, it began fading but this will certainly push right back up there again, Kanye West is dealing with more controversy after his VMA stunt, Lil’ Wayne is Lil’ Wayne and Eminem goes in to prove that he still is a major force in music full stop.

Hype Williams goes all out with this, full of effects, props, camera angles, the whole lot, Eminem really goes in, this is the Em that we love, cameos by Slaughterhouse seem to have some sort of effect, they just stand there but see it this way, Slaughterhouse are considered Hip-Hop’s most feared collective at the moment and they are standing ‘behind’ Eminem, it justifies his status.

Forever has a feeling to it, each artist brings their own presence to it and the video captures it nicely.

Dirty Money – Angels ft. Notorious BIG (Official Video)

Diddy returns to our screens and speakers with something new.

During production of his latest album, a concept and group was formed, consisting of himself, singer Kaleena and former Danity Kane vocalist Dawn Richardson, the group Dirty Money, is a edgy R&B group, a rock influenced urban group, Nirvana meets Ne-Yo style sound, nobody was sure what to expect, until now.

“I came from Heaven, Just to sing a song for you..”

The concept which Grammy winning producer Brian Michael Cox attempted to create with his R&B group ‘Dirty Rose’, however, it was not executed as well as this, With Dirty Money and the single Angels, Diddy manages to capture feeling, known for his sampling, he does no different here, the additional B.I.G verse actually provides the ‘street’ element, it captures a range of emotions and interacts with a variation of audiences, truth is, I really like it, it is subtle yet emphatic at the same time. Diddy is no stranger to marketing and he does no wrong here, Hype Williams is called upon for the directing and he pretty much mirrors the song with a visual, monotone and slow, it captures the essences of the track, you forget that Diddy is actually singing. There are some grey areas of confusion, there is a heavy portrayal of religion, which makes sense to the title ‘Angels’, yet the visuals of smoking, partying does clash but overall it manages to blend well and create a contrast that we face in every day life.

Angels has me intrigued to hear more from Dirty Money, this would be a perfect intro track for their album, but that shall all be revealed in due time, for now, Diddy has done it again, and provided us with something extremely different to listen to, from Diddy’s Phill Collins-like singing to Dawn’s sultry ad-libs, Angels might just be what the industry needs.

JAMIE FOXX – DIGITAL GIRL ft. Drake, The Dream & Kanye West

The original has been around for a while, taken from Jamie Foxx’s new album ‘Intuition’, it is a good song but it had no real buzz, so what better than to get the most talked about artist of the moment on the track and release it as a single. Enter Drake, the Toronto born actor turned rapper has a surreal hype surrounding him, with major labels locked into a bidding war for his signature, Jay-Z referred to his So Far Gone mixtape as the best of all time, Kanye West is directing his new video, he is part of Lil’ Wayne’s Young Money, he has already worked with Jay and will feature on Mary J Blige’s new single, so it is fair to say that Drake is pretty much the hottest rapper at the moment.

With all that weight on his shoulders, Drake displays his confidence, knowing why he has been asked to feature on the track and he does not disappoint, concept, flow and lyrics, adding the singing into his verse, it is a trademark Drake verse and like the others, it is a good one.

I like the concept, it has been done before by the likes of R. Kelly (2nd Kelly) and Usher (Dot Com), but none the less, it does not interfere with Digital Girl, it grows on you the more you hear it, it is a really good collaboration.

Kanye West has gone from soulful Hip-Hop producer to Global Superstar, there are a few artists in the world of his caliber, so a clever, witty rhyme with a catchy flow are expected, Kanye’s verse is a good, I like the beat change, it pretty much is the peak of the song, his verse is a good balance with Drake’s, it fuses nicely as The Dream and Jamie Foxx take up the singing duties, to have four stars on one track does not always guarantee a hit but I think Jamie Foxx has one with this effort.

I like the beat change when for Kanye’s verse, it is the peak of the song, now is that a statement in itself that Drake is still no Kanye West, either way, it adds a whole new element to the track, it takes the track to a new level even. The video, although not unique or a real representation of the song, still manages to come off well, it reminded me of Hype William’s video for Lloyd – Girls Around The World ft. Lil’ Wayne, however, at one point the girls do look a bit virtual and such a small touch as that really makes a big difference. I like the idea of four superstars on one track, it has a momentous feel to it, Digital Girl is like the R&B version of Swagger Like Us. Over all it was always a good track, the video is not as good as it could have been, towards the end you see Jamie Foxx and Dream enjoying the track whilst Kanye West and Drake fade into the background.

Kenna – Say Goodbye To Love

With the Neptunes (Pharrell Williams & Chad Hugo) set to make another major impact with their up-coming projects, I found myself listening to old Neptunes productions, seeing (Yes, I see sounds) the transitions they made, the change of styles. So I began posting the best vids on my facebook fansite, then I got to this track and I felt that it deserved a review.

I prefer the remix featuring Lupe Fiasco, however, this video is too crazy to not show you all. Hype Williams behind the camera so obviously you expect something special and in some strange way it actually is. Different is the word that comes to mind, the visuals, the angles, it appears random yet fits the concept perfectly.

The track itself, produced obviously by the Neptunes, for such a topic it is really upbeat, ‘Say Goodbye To Love’ has Kenna singing about his pain as he turns his back on a unsuccessful relationship, this has to be the best song to get back up from a ‘love’ knock-down (before Kanye West – Love Lockdown)..”You Choooooose”

The arrangement is the key here, the way the sounds are placed and layered, it just has that up-tempo party vibe, although the content is not, placed with the well-crafted video you can understand the message and feeling being put across.

A classic song is always one that is so good it can break a genre-barrier, this song happens to do so, not greatly, but just by Kenna assisted with the Neptunes’ virsatility alone, Say Goodbye To Love manages to stand out.
