Lowkey – Something Wonderful

A man who uses his talents for the good, somebody who wants more from life than money and fame, somebody who wants to make a change, that somebody is UK’s own, Lowkey, one of the most gifted artists with his mind in the right place, here is his new single, the captivating, Something Wonderful:

Something Wonderful is quitely simply a beautiful song, it speaks for itself in volumes, it is an honest record (something you can always expect from Lowkey), it is a positive record and most of all it has a meaning, his ever-growing fanbase will love this as will new listeners. An ode to the female, Lowkey has come into more prominence recently and has not stopped to enjoy the accomplishments but rather work harder in order to acheive his goal, as a person he is humble and honest, I can only support and offer praise for such a person, especially when the music being created is so powerful and even comforting.

Having already topped the Amazon download charts, with Long Live Palestine, surpassing the likes of Jay-Z, Eminem and the Black Eyed Peas in doing so, he has shown that you can still have a career and a following despite a lack of help from the media and corporates.

Continue to support the rightous rapper, as he continues to deliver quality and honest music.

DRAKE – FOREVER ft. Kanye West, Lil’ Wayne & Eminem

The 2009 Monster anthem, taken from the soundtrack for NBA MVP LeBron James’ new movie receives the Hype treatment for it’s new video.

This is definitely something special, a momentus occasion in Hip-Hop, Drake has a buzz like no other, it began fading but this will certainly push right back up there again, Kanye West is dealing with more controversy after his VMA stunt, Lil’ Wayne is Lil’ Wayne and Eminem goes in to prove that he still is a major force in music full stop.

Hype Williams goes all out with this, full of effects, props, camera angles, the whole lot, Eminem really goes in, this is the Em that we love, cameos by Slaughterhouse seem to have some sort of effect, they just stand there but see it this way, Slaughterhouse are considered Hip-Hop’s most feared collective at the moment and they are standing ‘behind’ Eminem, it justifies his status.

Forever has a feeling to it, each artist brings their own presence to it and the video captures it nicely.

Asher Roth – She Don’t Want A Man ft. Keri Hilson

After the success of his debut single I Love College, Mr Roth returns with She Don’t Wanna Man, featuring “Miss Keriii Baaaby”, Keri Hilson helps solidify the single as a ladies’ anthem, I Love College was a favourite of mine and a huge success for Asher, this new single will be no different in terms of it’s success.

I like the relativity and feel good factor that Asher Roth brings to the table with his records, although these songs do not justify his ability as a rapper nor lyricist, they do boost his credentials as an artist and his previous records have helped him stand among some of the best, he has to be more than just white to be compared to the almost legendary Eminem.

50 Cent – Baby By Me ft. Ne-Yo

This one has yet to grow on me, this could be one of those cases where a visual is needed, simply as it is something different from both artists, it is a heavyweight collaboration, I guess that is my problem with it, 50 Cent and Ne-Yo, yet the track itself does not represent their status, Fabolous and Ne-Yo – Make Me Better had a far greater impact, this however feels rushed and a desperation move from 50 to get his name back on the top, surprisingly it has fallen, the likes of Drake, Kanye and Lil’ Wayne have all remained consistent, Jay-Z has even re-instated his position with Blueprint 3, Eminem proved that he is still one of the best and so the pressure really is on 50 Cent to deliver, this however is not a good attempt.

SLAUGHTERHOUSE

“It’s a MotherF*@%in’ Slaughterhouse”

Having already introduced the collective to you with their previous record ‘Move On’, it is time for people to be reminded as they have released their debut album.

For the Hip-Hop fans, Nas’ statement that “Hip-Hop is Dead” has been proved false with the rise of this collective, Take four hungry and extremely underated artists and put them together, the result is Slaughterhouse, consisting of Long Beach’s Crooked I (once Death Row rapper, undeniably talented but looked over when they mention LA’s best), Royce Da 5’9 (Detroit representative, most notably the only person rapper to cause Eminem any problem lyrically, Joe Budden (Mr Pump It Up was left frustrated after his record label attempted to dominate his career marketing him as a softer more pop sounding rapper) and Joell Ortiz (the NY beast who was initially signed to Dr Dre’s Aftermath imprint).

The story is simple, they came to prominance thanks to their talent but then politics and outside issues forced them to part ways with their labels, whilst working on his solo album, Joe Budden recruited the three other members as features on his track titled ‘Slaughterhouse’

The feeling of this song was so monumental, in a genre that is full of ‘beefs’ and conflicts, to have four talented emcees comes together and to do it so well, there was something epic about it, focussing on the phrase “strength in numbers”, the four came together once again, this time to prove their worth in the industry. It has worked so far, if you’re a Joe Budden fan then you have now been exposed to Ortiz, Crooked and Royce, and likewise if you were a Crooked I fan, you are now introduced to the other three members, who all equally deliver with their own unique style. Their debut self titled album is critically acclaimed, a must have for any Hip Hop fan.

Mariah Carey – Obsessed

This song has been around for a while, promoted as an apparent ‘diss’ to Eminem, it gained a lot of interest, however for me that was taking it away from what it truely was, I don’t jump on band-wagons, so once the interest died down, I gave it an actual listen. Mariah’s recent album E=MC2 was a good album, collaborations with artists such as Young Jeezy and Damien Marley really gave the album and Mariah that urban edge, Mariah like Justin Timberlake is one of those artists who already has a large mainstream following, predominantly Pop, they manage to maintain satisfying the urban audiences.

‘Obsessed’, the first single from her forthcoming album ‘the Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel’ is a good song, it is catchy, it could be considered generic, however, it seems to stand out, one for the ladies without a doubt.

Mariah Carey as everyone knows has a presence, the vocal talent is undeniably great and so she gives the track that extra ‘umph’ (there literally is not a word for it), it is a combination of the presence, the fact that it is a well known artist and the experience of being on record. Production is provided by none other than Tricky Stewart and the lyrical genius that is The-Dream, the track is co-written with Mariah herself which is why MC manages to put so much soul into it dispite the the auto-tune like effects on the voice. A music video has been filmed, directed by Brett Ratner (Rush Hour) and will feature Mariah playing both herself and her stalker.

Obsessed looks set to be another hit for Mariah Carey, who appears set to take off from where she left, at the top.
