Bluey Robinson, Remember the name!

As a fan of music first, it doesn’t matter what genre, or where the artist is from, if the music is good then i listen to it. Even though I’m British (and proud), I’m never biased, but sometimes I hear an artist that justifies my belief that there is talent in the UK as good as those looked up to in America, if not better.

And so I bring to you…

Bluey Robinson

Bluey Robinson‘, I start with his name simply because it is all about him, this boy has some serious talent, a voice that makes you believe that without a doubt singing is a God given gift.

Originally, all I knew of him was what he looked like as he appeared in the video for G-FrShDo It, but this guy is more than ladies’ eye candy.

A friend of mine reminded me about him and so i decided to look into it, so i opened up YouTube and searched for him (http://www.youtube.com/user/BlueyRobinsonTV), he has posted a spoof video for his track ‘Give Me A Sign‘, firstly the video shows off his personality, he comes across as a fun-loving kid that enjoys performing, the song itself reminded me of the 80’s funk era, the real catchy tracks that you just couldn’t help but to move and sing along to.

Lyrically he shows great promise as a song writer but even more promise as the full package as his voice just has something about it, I’m not comparing but the first artist that came to mind when i heard him was Michael Jackson, maybe he sung the song in a similar way i don’t know, but that is where the next videos come in. A video of him at an underground station, where he starts to sing (whilst a lifeless set of people are waiting for their tube), this is live singing, the real stuff and he sounded so good..I’m here wondering why he has not been picked up by a major label?!

I clicked on video after video, watching his renditions of classics by the likes of Stevie Wonder, BoyzIIMen and Dru Hill, to him singing at an NY Metro station, then i came across Think of Me (Live), for a song that is meant to be a one take effort, i was amazed, the content, the delivery, he kept it British with his pronunciation, Bluey Robinson could match many singers in the USA, he is no doubt one to watch for the future.

Loaded with talent and the kind of charisma and personality that you can’t help but to like him even if you don’t know him personally, potential wise, he’s the best prospect in this country that I’ve seen since Craig David emerged onto the scene. with the right label and promotion, Bluey has every ability for him to succeed internationally as a singing sensation.

T-Pain & Kanye West – Flight School

Rumored to be a demo song for GOOD Music (Kanye’s Label) recording artist GLC, However I, like many people think it should be made into a full single, it is something special.

‘Flight School’, consisting of one of the simplest beats you’ve ever heard either of them on, a light piano melody with some added sparkles, really brings some life into it, but the real standout feature about the track is the artists themselves, both Kanye West and T-Pain, deliver vocals that we’re accustomed to, the thing is, that it just solidifies them among the greats of today, T-Pain really brings out the soul on this track, i felt like the song related to me, Mr West brings out some of the greatest lines ever with more confidence and composure on the mic than we’re used to hearing, especially his last part,

“Shit, These last years been a Hayes (haze) like Isaac, so i close my eyes tighter than asian eyes get, realise i got the same wings angels fly with, with Louis Vuitton feathers..now that’s some fly shit”,

it really emphasizes how great of an artist Kanye West is and overall with the self proclaimed ringleader himself T-Pain, it show good a song Flight School really is.

Scorcher – I Know

After North London’s Wretch 32 silenced critics with the release of his album ‘Wretchrospective’ (It’s a Classic..Trust me!!), the time is now for fellow emcee ‘Scorcher‘ to unleash his talent upon the mainstream.

It is a tough challenge to create a radio-friendly song whilst maintaining street credibility at the same time, however, with his first single ‘I Know’ Scorcher has dealt with the challenge almost effortlessly.

‘I Know’ is one of the most versatile tracks to come out of the UK for a long time, expect to hear it on the radio, your friends ipod, the club and on your TV! A pacey track armed with a mean synth, layered over one of the most hypnotic drum patterns, this might as well be considered as a map to the mainstream, once there, the charismatic Scorcher’s talent itself will help him unlock and enter to gain the recognition he truly deserves.

Not much has to be said as the video says it all, good song, great video, impressive but expected from such a prospect, the past has shown glimmers of what to expect and now with the release of his album ‘Concrete Jungle’ on the way, i guess the sky is not even the limit for the Sky walker himself.

J Will – Deja Vu ft. Wretch 32

With UK hip-hop/Rap and Grime rising heavily and interest increasing across the world, it is now time for the UK to show that we can do R&B as well.

Although considered unknown in the tides of the mainstream, North London’s ‘J Will‘ is definitely rising to the surface with his new single ‘Deja Vu’, featuring one of the country’s most gifted and lyrically talented emcees ‘Wretch 32‘.

Deja Vu is a catchy song without a doubt, and the unique concept only enhances the track’s likability, personally it is Wretch 32’s feature that stands out, adapting to the concept, Wretch 32 really adds depth to the song which already sounds like a hit.

“Maybe could this be another Deja Vu, first you get to know me then we rendezvous, midnight at my apartment..a table for two, you’re so contagious”, sings J Will, his voice is soft and extremely easy to listen to, there are no over-exaggerated attempts to display vocal ability, yet with such ease and smoothness J Will proves his worth as a quality singer. Wretch 32 follows in the same manner as he delivers a smooth verse,

“I’m sayin’ maybe this could be another deja vu, we could rendezvous and end up at the same castle, cah I’m on to you I’ll treat you like the great Arsenal, put you on top of the table and champions league ya, I’m on top of ma game, I bang through the speaker, I’m glad we could team up..love! ..But i feel like I’ve been here before, but this deja vu’s got me feelin’ for more”,

clearly highlighting his status as one of the country’s premier emcees if not artist.

All in all, Deja Vu is a track with a lot of potential to breakthrough into the charts with the right promotion, whilst helping both artists establish a position for themselves among the mainstream’s elite.

Check out his myspace and make sure you listen to ‘Would You Love Me’

See you soon with another big review, I guess you can call it a Deja Vu!!

Ozzie B – About Time

As One third of Lethal Bizzle’s More Fire Crew, Ozzie B always stood out, whether it was the breakthrough ‘Oi‘ or the mainstream phenomenon ‘Pow‘. 2009 sees Ozzie B mark his return in permanent ink with ‘About Time‘. Production provided by ‘Grimey’, the beat consist of a heavy bass as the foundation for the epic sounding strings to comfortably lay on, the kick adds pace into the track, added with minor synths with a major effect. Ozzie B does the beat justice as he flows smoothly whilst maintaining the grit and rawness backed by his lyrical content. A street-anthem, ‘About Time‘ is definitely underrated but has all the potential to give Ozzie B the recognition and applaud he deserves within the scene as an artist.
The video is just as grimey and innovative as the song, it really emphasizes the track and helps provide Ozzie B with a new platform to display his charisma as one of the realest artists in the industry …”It’s About Time!!”

Cam’ron – I Used To Get It In Ohio

Harlem’s Pink Panther himself, Cam’ron returns after his hiatus with a new album and by the sounds of the first single, a new hunger and desire as well.
‘I Used To Get It In Ohio’ is geared up as the official first single from the due LP ‘Crime Pays‘ set for an early May release. the single introduces us to Killa Cam, the Cam fans have been eager to hear again and I don’t think he could have chosen a better beat, A melodic synth-driven sound accompanied with a unique drum pattern filled with claps and kicks, safely supported by a solid bass pattern, provides the Dipset general with the perfect canvas to paint his lyrical picture on. Cam’s back with the yayo slanging audio diary layed out in the way that only he can. The accompanying video is less flashy than we’re used to seeing, but in essence adds to the feel and the image the song sends, Cam’ron is back on his grind to the top! Out to prove his critics and doubters, Cam’ron is definitely on the right track. I USED TO GET IT IN OHIO!

Lil’ Wayne – Prom Queen

After completely dominating 2008 with the multi-platinum (thats over a million records sold for those that don’t know) selling ‘Carter III‘, the martian himself Lil’ Wayne has now entered a new territory to claim.  ‘Rebirth’ is set to be the first Rock album from Lil’ Wayne (and probably any other rapper). I have only heard the first single and seen the video and do you know what? ..i actually like it! It is something that i expected to be honest, certain appearances and tracks on the Carter III (notibly ‘Playing With Fire’) helped him make the transition, his guest verse on the rock and rap hybrid group Gym Class Heroe’s track ‘Don’t Tell Me It’s Over’ and then the verse on Fall Out Boy’s ‘Tiffany Blews’ have helped him create his own lane in the Rock genre as well now. The first single, ‘Prom Queen‘ (click for video) is a mild blend of genres, the heavy hip-hop sounding bass, strong lead of guitars and the hard hitting drums (i guess that’s the rock), his style of lyrical delivery is very indie inspired during the verses, then switches up as he pours out more soul in the chorus, “She had it all figured out, when she left me with a broken heart, F***ed around and turned me down cos she didn’t think that i could play the part, but now the prom queen..is crying, sitting outside my door, she never knew how, how everything could turn around”, pretty emotional but at the same time it feels so good and i reckon it will get the recognition it deserves, even if we do hear Weezy still with the autotune but he makes it good somehow so you can’t hate. The song is almost like taking something good from different genres, mixing them together and voila..Prom Queen! In no way is this move going to slow Wayne down nor be the start of his apparently imminent (according to hip hop fans) downfall, the track to me is less Rock and more Lil’ Wayne, hes singing rather than rapping (that’s not new), hes playing the guitar (already knew he did), he’s on about a girl breaking his heart (he’s done that plenty of times), i guess the drums are louder, but don’t anyone think I’m criticizing the song, because I’m not, I really like it, its catchy, the content is realistic (guy gets heartbroken by girl who later realizes the mistake she made), it’s inspirational even. Lil’ Wayne has another hit to add to the rest out of his previous 6 albums (he’s been in the game since he was 13), however, will the ‘rebirth’ bring him a platinum plaque?..that will be interesting, die hard ‘weezy’ fans will no doubt support, and if Prom Queen is to go by then yes it will, either way, many laughed at the thought that the Carter III would sell over a million and it did in the first week.
It’s Young Moooulaaa Babyyy!!

Welcome to my world

Right, so I’ve decided to join forces with the evil that is technology, seriously, we don’t realise but we’re all being controlled by technology, from mobile phones to facebook, they dominate and often dictate our lives.

I’m not hating on technology, love it and want it continue progressing until we finally have hoverboards (Watch ‘Back to the Future’ for those that don’t know what i’m on about), anyway, the point is i’m going to share my sight of life and it’s randomness in blog form, so keep checking through and see all that i can interest you with.
