Lethal Bizzle – Can’t Touch This ft. Wiley & Scorcher

As the new era of Grime continues to grow, favoured by the return of it’s legends, another heavyweight staple returns to lead it back to the top, with More Fire Crew’s founding member Lethal Bizzle emerging with a new original in the form of Can’t Touch This.

Bizzle has carved his own lane since his early Grime dominance, securing chart success with a series of uptempo feel-good anthems and whilst he could have just continued that streak as a solo artist, he recruits the current captain Scorcher and the living legend Wiley for what can only be described as a banger. Can’t Touch This, produced by Felix Dubs, with it’s blend of musicality, piercing synth and heavy-slapping drums, allows Bizzle to reinvigorate the genre, “Original sound, can’t touch this”. As a lot of Grime’s current resurgence depends on nostalgic rhythms, this is exactly the elevation the sound needed. Wiley had faced some tribulations for his honesty and shedding light on the ill-practices of the system and while it may have felt like the game turned it’s back on him, the real continued to hold him in the rightful high regard, and as the genre re-enters the spotlight, his appearance makes it official and he effortlessly returns like he hasn’t missed a beat, with his verse painting the foundations of Grime, highlighting it’s essence and being able to deliver in it’s present iteration, “timeless flows, can’t touch this”, setting the tone for Bizzle to match that energy and remind us of why he was able to breakthrough the way he did. Whilst there are many factors for this new stage of Grime, from DJs, producers and a variety of artists that had not ventured from the sound, however, one of the real reasons for this recent impact is none other than Scorcher and so his feature on this is just mandatory, especially if you know of his origins of clashing and legendary radio sets. Grime consists of elements and together Wiley brings the sound, Bizzle adds the energy and Scorcher provides that street component. A perfect mix of why we fell in love with the genre and even greater example of the growth and direction it’s leading to, plus another great step in it’s evolution. The visuals help portray it further with it’s studio setting and appearances from a variety of the scene’s original members.

More recently, as people online engage with their own verses, I randomly come across none other than Take That’s Robbie Williams flowing, which still baffles me because I never knew he was a barrers like that, he could’ve easily been on this or an official remix even.

This collaboration cements the genre’s reemergence and will undoubtedly revive that live show energy, whilst serving as a sign of more to come.

Black The Ripper Vs Jammer

Okay, so I’m tweeting away to the new followers and in coversation with some artists, when one of the artists Re-Tweets (RT) something, it was from @BlackTheRipper, if you don’t know who he is, then get to know, he is one of the most naturally gifted artists, coming out of North London, he has a style of his own, he can do Grime but pours more soul into Hip-Hop, he is definitely one to keep an ear out for, anyway, he retweets this:

Even fellow emcee Voltage saw what was about to happen..

Now, it could have ended there, however, Jammer responded, I can go into detail but you might as well check out their Twitters for yourself: (just click their names)

Black The Ripper
Jammer

What is interesting about this, is that it pretty much stemmed from nowhere and now Black The Ripper aka Samson has even written a whole song to end his career before he even responded back on Twitter (quite funny if you think about it), everybody knows that Jammer is a different style of artist compared to Samson, so why there is talk of them being paired up at the legendary Lord Of The Mics3 (LOTM3), an event which recently had rising emcees Maxsta and Double S going against each other for a (now cancelled) emcee battle at LOTM3. This situation between Jammer and Black The Ripper, really makes no sense to me, because lyrically and delivery wise, Black The Ripper is one of the best in the country, his street cred is no weaker as nobody really has any issues and if they do they keep it to themselves, as much as I love the positivity that has been shown, this will provide much needed entertainment, its no Jay-Z V Nas but it has the possibility of becoming quite the talk as the likes of Lethal Bizzle and Griminal have all had issues with Jammer in the past, so who knows what comes of this, Will Jammer’s Boy Better Know comrades step in, or will this just be a pointless twitter squabble that will just simmer down and end as a laugh for all.

Look out for more to come on this, it could be quite the spectacle.

I would like to add, I am excited to see a clash but only in the musical sense, I want to see competition so long as it stays in music.

Wise words of wisdom with Megaman (So Solid)

With artists like Dizzee Rascal, Tinchy Stryder, Wiley and Chipmunk dominating the charts, the urban scenes are buzzing as more doors are opened, at the same time I think people should understand the originators, the pioneers who first turned that door handle, such as More Fire and before that, probably the biggest urban movement in the UK, the So Solid Crew.

During a recent video shoot, I had a chat with Megaman, who humble as ever explained his dream, desire and dedication, a man who has accomplished so much in terms of music and business, I felt it was only right that we share more wise words of wisdom from the So Solid captain himself (Along with Ozzie B).

Ozzie B – Strongest Drink ft. Double S

Ozzie B is definitely not slacking, After the banger About Time, the More Fire and Great Minds Think Alike artist put out the club anthem Maybee Ting (Video coming soon), only to then give us what could be many people’s anthem for the summer with ‘Strongest Drink’.

Featuring the fast-rising emcee Double S (of Marvell), this funky number is a capable to get any party going, the concept is fun, the lyrics are easy to understand and vibe to, the production possesses that feel good factor, you cannot help but to move along to it. Double S continues to elevate his position further, with his quick flow and witty lyrics, “You’re smart..you don’t need no diploma, but really you should dip low..ma!”.

Ozzie B and his collective ‘Great Minds Think Alike‘ (GMTA), are continuously pushing themselves in order to get the best, Ozzie has really displayed his ability in terms of diversity with the likes of ‘Maybee Ting’ and ‘Strongest Drink’, whilst About Time serves an ace for the more introspective Grime fan.

Ozzie B – Maybee Thing

Hopefully you’ve seen Ozzie B’s ‘About Time’ (and read the review obviously), well now Ozzie B aka Zed follows up that anthem with another one.

“These days it’s a Maybee thing, Everybody saying Maybee thing,
These days it’s a Maybee thing, To make P’s is a definite-definite- definite-definite thing!!”

Ozzie B displays his versatility with this one, after the strong sounding and lyrically driven ‘About Time’, he steps into the funky house room, trying to keep the sound as street and underground sounding as possible, yet possessing the required elements for it to be as big on the dance floor, It will no doubt help put the name Ozzie B into more people’s heads with the track’s catchy vibe, you can’t help but to get up and ‘skank’ to this one.

Maybee Thing‘ is a feel good, care free tune, you can’t be critical of something that does what it is supposed to, and Ozzie B has certainly met the requirements with this banger.

Ozzie B – About Time

As One third of Lethal Bizzle’s More Fire Crew, Ozzie B always stood out, whether it was the breakthrough ‘Oi‘ or the mainstream phenomenon ‘Pow‘. 2009 sees Ozzie B mark his return in permanent ink with ‘About Time‘. Production provided by ‘Grimey’, the beat consist of a heavy bass as the foundation for the epic sounding strings to comfortably lay on, the kick adds pace into the track, added with minor synths with a major effect. Ozzie B does the beat justice as he flows smoothly whilst maintaining the grit and rawness backed by his lyrical content. A street-anthem, ‘About Time‘ is definitely underrated but has all the potential to give Ozzie B the recognition and applaud he deserves within the scene as an artist.
The video is just as grimey and innovative as the song, it really emphasizes the track and helps provide Ozzie B with a new platform to display his charisma as one of the realest artists in the industry …”It’s About Time!!”
