FDM

FDM, better known in the UK as Fun*dmental 03 were pretty much our version of B2K, consisting of Varren, Kyle and Jermaine, the group rose to prominence quite quickly, however recently not much had been heard, many felt that they were no longer performing, that is not quite the case, they are indeed patiently developing their brand after being signed to a major label in the states ‘Geffen Records’ (home to Mary J Blige and Wale to name a few) in conjunction with Ne-Yo’s label ‘Compound’.

A favourite of mine, Playground:

check this video out, they go to the Geffen exec to display their ability, amazing:

Seeing all this is great for me, I was just a kid listening to their tracks, watching their videos on TV, I was a fan without a doubt, their ability was so evident, they have personality, talent and the desire to do this.

Well done Geffen records for recognizing the ability and giving them the chance, and Good Luck to the boys, Compound (Ne-Yo’s label) and Da Works, their talent and hard work should ensure a bright future.

I did not even know that there was a video for this, another favourite, produced by Music Kidz (Shout out to Shabz & K1)

13 – My Heart Keeps Crying

13 reached out to me and I am glad he did, this is not bad, it has definitely grown on me, but more so it has me wanting to hear more, for those that feel the same, check out his myspace: http://www.myspace.com/13musicworld

I like the fact that his voice is different, it helps him stand out, it is really current, which makes it appealing for a wider audience, so good that Chipmunk had to jump on the remix:

The chorus is really catchy, produced by Mr Wizzy Wow, this will no doubt continue to grow as 13 makes his mark in the music industry.

DRAKE – FOREVER ft. Kanye West, Lil’ Wayne & Eminem

The 2009 Monster anthem, taken from the soundtrack for NBA MVP LeBron James’ new movie receives the Hype treatment for it’s new video.

This is definitely something special, a momentus occasion in Hip-Hop, Drake has a buzz like no other, it began fading but this will certainly push right back up there again, Kanye West is dealing with more controversy after his VMA stunt, Lil’ Wayne is Lil’ Wayne and Eminem goes in to prove that he still is a major force in music full stop.

Hype Williams goes all out with this, full of effects, props, camera angles, the whole lot, Eminem really goes in, this is the Em that we love, cameos by Slaughterhouse seem to have some sort of effect, they just stand there but see it this way, Slaughterhouse are considered Hip-Hop’s most feared collective at the moment and they are standing ‘behind’ Eminem, it justifies his status.

Forever has a feeling to it, each artist brings their own presence to it and the video captures it nicely.

Bashy – Life (Trailer)

Mr Bish Bash Bosh himself, has released the trailer for his forthcoming video for the track Life.

This might just be my favourite track of his critically acclaimed album Catch Me If You Can (In Stores NOW).
Bashy shines the brightest when he gets serious with his topics, Life sounds like the realest thing he has ever written, touching on real situations with his witty and emphatic charisma.

The thing that seperates Bashy from the start is that coming from a Genre dominated with stereotyping and surrounded by negative hype, he was always a diverse artist, he was not taken seriously as he was not continously speaking on violence, he was more creative and broad, that however became his advantage as he stood out among the violent, tough life concepts which have become generic with Grime. Life is the definition of Grime, I already am dissapointed as I fear that it will not receive the real acknowledgement that such a strong and meaningful track deserves.

Without giving away too much, the trailer manages to grip you, I am certainly looking forward to what could (along with his double Mobo Nominations) be Bashy’s official entrance as one of the leading mainstream artists in the UK.

Kano – Rock N Rolla (Official Video)

There is no denying that this will be another successful single for the East London emcee, however, it is debatable whether this classifies as Grime, if not, has Kano left the scene again or are we understanding that he is an artist allowed to experiment?

In all honesty I am dissapointed with the video, the Justin Timberlake – My Love graphics add a lack of originality, which does not help the fact that Kano himself is using Autotune which has not been considered original for a while, production is similar to Tinchy Stryder’s current sound, but for feeling and feel good factor it is loaded and will definitely have everyone moving, especially in the clubs. It seems more like a buzz single, which although I feel deserved a better visual, it is different for a Grime video, it has certain elements and flavours to it which will help it stand out and make it appealing. Kano returned to the Grime scene with his previous album 140 Grime street, which although had one video and release, it did not receive the same reception as his previous two efforts, therefore it seems Kano is looking to go back and reclaim his status as not just a premier emcee but one of the countries premier artists.

P-Money – 1 UP

So, I’m listening to some R&B and decide to speed it up, Grime always does the trick, but what do I listen to?
I wanted to hear something creative, different, something that I had no heard, So ‘P-Money – Money Over Everything‘, I had heard freestyles and short sets by P, but not an actual track.

Now, skipping through, I come across Track 5 1 UP, so far its full-on Grime, no mainstream crossover attempts, 1 UP possesses a youthful feeling, more so as it samples and the concept is based around the Nintendo classic, Mario.

P Money himself displays his lyrical ability nicely, as he uses characters and props from the famous game within his rhymes, it merges with the beat extremely well, it is fun, refreshing, exciting and really emphatic.

“It’s My Game, You Need To Jump Outta”

The concept is great, however not always is a good concept lead to a good track, in this case though, P Money pulls it off nicely, It remains true to the genre whilst those who are not as into Grime may still enjoy, any gamer can relate and its overall vibe is not as negative as the stereotypes of Grime are considered.

With 1UP & Money Over Everything, P Money has established himself as one of the ones to watch out for as the scene continues to flourish.
