Bluey Robinson – I Know

The ultra-talented singer blesses us with his first single ‘I Know’.

‘I Know’ like the singer himself has been gaining a lot of interest, unique in sound it fits a selection of genres, but whatever the genre…one thing for sure is that it sounds great! Bluey Robinson has a summer smash, whether the skies are grey or the suns shining bright, this song sounds just as good and I expect to see it help promote Bluey Robinson further into the spotlight a man of his talent deserves.

The UK is not short of talent, that is for sure and Bluey Robinson is one of the most vocally gifted artists in this country with ‘I Know’ serving as proof. The production helps the track standout amongst anything else you’ll hear, the combination of synths layered on the varying drum pattern give ‘I Know’ a strong balance with Bluey’s vocal range.

“I would put a smile, on that pretty face, whatever it takes girl..I will find a way”

‘I Know’ is a showcase of Bluey’s ability as well as an official introduction, Ladies & Gentlemen, Bluey Robinson.

Ozzie B – Maybee Ting

Hopefully you’ve seen Ozzie B’s ‘About Time’ (and read the review obviously), well now Ozzie B aka Zed follows up that anthem with another one.

“These days it’s a Maybee thing, Everybody saying Maybee thing,
These days it’s a Maybee thing, To make P’s is a definite-definite- definite-definite thing!!”

Ozzie B displays his versatility with this one, after the strong sounding and lyrically driven ‘About Time’, he steps into the funky house room, trying to keep the sound as street and underground sounding as possible, yet possessing the required elements for it to be as big on the dance floor, It will no doubt help put the name Ozzie B into more people’s heads with the track’s catchy vibe, you can’t help but to get up and ‘skank’ to this one.

Maybee Thing‘ is a feel good, care free tune, you can’t be critical of something that does what it is supposed to, and Ozzie B has certainly met the requirements with this banger.

Featuring rising comedian Jazzie’s alter ego J.Weezy, the video adds to what is most definitely a summer banger!

Giggs – Slow Songs ft. The Streets

This song has been on repeat, BET award winner Giggs and Mike Skinner team up for this suprising collaboration, however, as unlikely the partnership may seem, the two work perfectly. Giggs maintains the style that has helped raise his profile, with reality cleverley crafted into clear and easy listening lyrics, this is Giggs at his finest and the Pecknarm representive does not dissappoint. The beat is basic but the sample and synths layered help form a route for the tracks journey to stay on course. Mike Skinner returns to our speakers with a verse that had me going back and listening to all the classic material from The Streets catalogue thus far.

In time this song will surely get more airplay and receive the recognition that it deserves, it is a massive track that could very well be the catalyst for a comeback from The Streets, in the mean time Slow Songs will help solidify Giggs’ position as one of the premier emcees/artists in the UK.

Since the above review, the track has continued to gain further radio play, rotated heavily by the likes of 1xtra’s Mista jam and Tim Westwood. The video like the song will definitely gain a mixed reaction, I want to criticise the video and say it does not offer the same standard of visual as the audio, but at the same time I admire it’s artistry, the video cleverly brings you more into Giggs’ mind, the metaphorical view of Mike Skinner leading Giggs out is similar to Mike Skinner reaching out to Giggs and leading him to the mainstream (from the underground).

Music videos are created to emphasise and help depict the song, this video does just that and with a track so powerful, I understand that it is best to keep it minimal. Expect to see this video on your TV soon, question is, will Mtv Base put their pride aside and give in to the quality and talent of (previously banned) Giggs.

Mariah Carey – Obsessed

This song has been around for a while, promoted as an apparent ‘diss’ to Eminem, it gained a lot of interest, however for me that was taking it away from what it truely was, I don’t jump on band-wagons, so once the interest died down, I gave it an actual listen. Mariah’s recent album E=MC2 was a good album, collaborations with artists such as Young Jeezy and Damien Marley really gave the album and Mariah that urban edge, Mariah like Justin Timberlake is one of those artists who already has a large mainstream following, predominantly Pop, they manage to maintain satisfying the urban audiences.

‘Obsessed’, the first single from her forthcoming album ‘the Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel’ is a good song, it is catchy, it could be considered generic, however, it seems to stand out, one for the ladies without a doubt.

Mariah Carey as everyone knows has a presence, the vocal talent is undeniably great and so she gives the track that extra ‘umph’ (there literally is not a word for it), it is a combination of the presence, the fact that it is a well known artist and the experience of being on record. Production is provided by none other than Tricky Stewart and the lyrical genius that is The-Dream, the track is co-written with Mariah herself which is why MC manages to put so much soul into it dispite the the auto-tune like effects on the voice. A music video has been filmed, directed by Brett Ratner (Rush Hour) and will feature Mariah playing both herself and her stalker.

Obsessed looks set to be another hit for Mariah Carey, who appears set to take off from where she left, at the top.

NEW BRAND FLEXX ..UK Stand Up!!

With around two million myspace views between them, trend setters Boya D and Sas K are established names within the underground, as part of New Brand Flexx, the talented duo have been at the forefront of creativity and innovation as artists in the UK, with hits, shows and adolation in their ammo, it is only fair for them to take a shot at the mainstream.

Having already seen SasKilla perform a few freestyles at a recent video shoot, I kind of knew what to expect, even then he further impressed me, they say two things that an artist needs to be successful is charisma (character as a person, something that fans can take to) and talent (obviously, the main product), Saskilla has both and plenty of it, the best thing about this set however, is Boya D unleashes the flow I knew he was keeping reserve and that was the highlight for me.

this Westwood set features two new artists, who do well, it shows the realness of Boya and Sas, to bring acts through. For me personally the star was Boya, simply because I did not expect it, together both Boya and Saskilla have every reason to make it to the top, this set underlines their versatility, away from loud colours and party tracks, they show that they can emcee at the highest level.

Sean Paul – So Fine

Jamican Dancehall sensation Sean Paul ends his 5 years hiatus with the release of So Fine, the first single from his forthcoming album Imperial Blaze.

To be honest, Sean Paul did not leave us completely, features with Pretty Ricky, Da’ville and Eve kept him prominent, however, the fans wanted more. ‘So Fine’ puts the Dutty Rock artist back into the spotlight, it is a new sound for Sean Paul, yet possesses the essences that he sounds best on, a party track, So Fine fits the summer well, a clever release no doubt. So Fine is similar to his previous releases, slightly faster in tempo and sounding more ‘electric’, Produced by Stephen “Di Genius” McGregor, the track is crafted with layers of claps and heavy kicks, the beat varies whilst the strong synth commands as SP flows how we like with the catchy rhymes, “Just Let Me Be There For You Anytime…You’re So Fine, For You I’d Join The Longest Line…You’re So Fine”. Sean Paul is not making a comeback, more so returning from where he left off in a bid to maintain his status to then proceed further.

I like this song, it will blazing over the summer, sounding good at the BBQ, through your headphones or on the radio, definitely a good return from Sean Paul.

4th July, My Birthday!!

As today is my birthday, I thought to share some birthday themed tunes, could only find three though:

Obviously, this song always does the trick at birthday parties, “Go Shawty, It’s Your Birthday..”, next is a more unorthadox choice:

Like I said, unorthadox, however the next and final one is the most obvious, most probably the first song that comes to mind when it comes to ‘birthdays’:

Oh and as a random bonus:

Take care World!

10 QUESTIONS with: BLUEY ROBINSON

photo

20 Year old singer/songwriter and performer ‘Bluey Robinson’ has been creating quite a name for himself, his recently launched YouTube channel (BlueyRobinsonTV) has over eleven thousand views, whilst his myspace page has just under 200,000 plays, to add to that his new single ‘I Know’ has made it onto Radio 1 playlisting which is adding to the already present buzz surrounding this young South East London talent.

In a bid to get to know more of the man himself, I managed to catch up with the rising star and asked him 10 questions, enjoy.

Q1) HOW DID YOU GET INTO MUSIC?

“I’ve kinda alway’s been involved in music.. I’ve never really not been interested or not sung or wrote songs. It’s always just felt like something I was supposed to do, However, only up until about 5 or 6 years ago did I really start trying to perfect my craft. I took it upon myself to learn about the industry, understand who I really was as an artist and work out how I would best present myself to the world.”

Q2) HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?

“I just try to be me.. Wear what I wanna wear.. Sing how I wanna sing.. do the kinda music that feels good to me. I’ve never really been one for scenes and genre’s.. Just makes me feel restricted!”

Q3) WHO ARE YOUR INSPIRATIONS AND INFLUENCES?

“I tend to get inspired by weird and wonderful things that occur in every day life. Anything that stands out and disrupts the monotonous and robotic system of 21st century living is always fun ..and on many occasions is a difficult and brave thing to attempt. I am greatly influenced by Art.. Pop culture.. Human behaviour.. Space travel, the theory of alternate dimensions.. Conspiracy theories, Cult classic films and comic books. Also, I have a great interest in other artists and figures such as; Michael Jackson, Bruce Lee, Muhammed Ali, Andre 3000, Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, Malcolm X, Kanye West and Freddy Mercury. Just to name a few!”

Q4) WHAT DOES BLUEY ROBINSON OFFER TO THE INDUSTRY?

“I guess I offer myself and my passion. I believe strongly in developing and building your own character. Becoming the biggest and best you you can be! I have a natural want and desire to break barriers, change peoples way of thinking and inspire. So I guess therefore I will offer something I think the world needs. I will be out to make my presence felt and make a difference, an honest difference.. however possible.
Whether it be through Music, Performance, Speech or some other drastic and unconventional means, if I think it will work, I will more than likely do it! ..Be passionate!

Confidence in yourself can take u where you need to be, and you must believe in you, your abilities and your message.”

Q5) WHAT MAKES YOU STAND OUT FROM OTHER ARTISTS?

“Alot of the above, and also the fact that I live in the moment, trying to make the most of any situation.. Enjoying life to the full and experiencing all I can.”

Q6) WHAT CAN WE LOOK FORWARD TO FROM BLUEY ROBINSON IN THE FUTURE AND WHEN?

“We have decided on the first single to be ‘I know’. Not too sure exactly when it will be released but it’s in preparation. Also I’m still working on my first album, It’s going really well and I’m excited! It’s all independent at the moment so is a bit of an uphill struggle, but I know it will eventually come together. The working title is ‘The Rising Sun'”

Q7) IF YOU COULD WORK WITH ANY ARTIST, WHO WOULD IT BE?

“There’s a few.. But I’d love to work with Andre 3000, when the times right.”

Q8) IF YOU COULD WORK WITH ANY PRODUCER, WHO WOULD IT BE?

“The producer I’ve been working with is seriously soon to become the best producer the industry has.. ‘Labrinth’, but apart from that guy.. I guess I could only say Quincy (Quincy Jones)”

Q9) WHAT DOES BLUEY ROBINSON LIKE TO DO IN HIS SPARE TIME?

“Make music.
Watch anime films.
Research something enlightening on youtube..
Travel (though I have not done too much of that yet)
Talk to new people
Talk to friends
Go to the cinema
Go to Fstreet.
Go outside.
Go and watch some kind of live performance.
Anything that feels new and exciting.”

Q10) IF YOU WERE NOT A SINGER, WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING?

“Going to MI5 to hand in my C.V”

Bluey Robinson does not just have the talent, but the passion to pursue his ambitions, his talent cannot be denied and his style cannot be defied, a truly unique individual with a bright future.

SEF – Need A Hero (D-Boy Remix) ft. Des-C

Sef teams up with Des-C for the D-Boy remix of his summer smash ‘Need A Hero’.

I first heard this at the video shoot and instantly knew this was another hit just by the sheer impact alone, I don’t even see this is a ‘Bhangra’ remix, it has that essence to it and you could argue that it is made for that audience, however, D-Boy cleverly crafts the remix with a blend of sounds which together offer a universal appeal, it stays true to its roots yet embraces an all round fun feeling. Des-C brings his own twist and does it well, providing a good contrast to Sef’s vocals. This D-Boy remix is almost addictive, the partial sample and the bridge of the song really give the remix it’s own individuality, separating it from most remixes and at the same time displaying D-Boy’s evident talent.
