G-FrSH – Afar ft. Tinie Tempah

G-FrSh returns with the follow up to the club anthem Do It, with Afar, featuring none other than Tinie Tempah, Afar is set to be another hit for G and Frsh Entertainment, the video is coming soon, directed by Jak Frsh so you already know it is going to be something special.

Afar (produced by ‘Sleepz’) is a mid-tempo track, the drum pattern is unique in the way it varies in speed and sound yet fits perfectly together, the real pace of the track is added by the synth, a wavy blend of sounds, the synth remains consistent yet the intensity of it changes which adds depth to the song, throw in some spacey sounds in the right places and you have one of the most innovative and versatile beat I’ve heard in a while.

G-FrSH goes in from the first line,
Some Say I’m Shy, Other People Call It Nervous, Some Say I’m Fly..And I’m Doin’ It On Purpose“,
controlling the tempo smoothly as he continues,
‘Cos She Knows I’m That Guy, And She Knows Who I Are, I’m Sippin’ On My Drink And I’m Just Watchin’ From Afar, I Watch Her While She Laughs, I Watch Her When She Dance, The DJs Playin’ Funky But She Got Me In A Trance..“,
with a greater presence on a track than I have heard from him and G-FrSH is someone who (to me) always had presence and stood out on a song, so it just highlights even more so the improvement he has made in his career as a rapper.

Tinie Tempah has one of the most consistent verses you will have heard in a long time, so good that I’m spoilt for choice as to which line was the best one, definitely a good feature on this hit and even takes it to another level in terms of it’s appeal to a broader range of fans.

Afar is certainly another hit for G-FrSH and FrSH entertainment who continue to deliver quality whether it is with their music, their standard of videos or the FrSH clothing line. After hearing this track, I can’t wait to hear more from the album.

Lady Ny – Birthday Sex REMIX

The UK singer puts her own twist on the Jeremih chart-blazer that is Birthday Sex,

Firstly, the original Jeremih – Birthday Sex has become a major success for the young singer, so successful that many artists have done their remixes, including UK’s own Tinie Tempah, Wretch 32 flipped it completely with First Place Wretch, Teairra Mari’s version was so good..she pretty much made it her own, even Brooke Hogan has a remix, however, now comes another remix but a unique one.

The extremely talented and just as beautiful Lady Ny has put out what I think is the best remix so far, the best thing about this track is that she does not follow the original’s catchy flow, Tiearra Mari literally reversed the roles and sang the same lyrics as Jeremih, however, with this effort Lady Ny has written a whole new song, her voice sounding better than ever, soft and smooth yet powerful and full of feeling, one of the biggest things missing in many of today’s singers is ‘soul’, that believable feeling, that relation, the way you feel when you hear someone like Robin Thicke grace the mic or even the late and great Marvin Gaye, Lady Ny has soul in abundance as she controls the melody, creating a classic of her own.

Wretch 32 – Superhero ft. Thy Maryan

Still flying from the success of his last album Wretchrospective, North London’s Wretch 32 returns with the first single from his forthcoming album ‘Black & White’, the track is entitled ‘Superhero‘ and although the concept may not be new, the style and deliverance of the track most definitely is.

Produced by and featuring the talented Thy Maryan of Frsh entertainment, Superhero is an up-tempo track capable to sound just as good through your headphones as it will through your favourite clubs speakers (So start requesting).

Thy Maryan fuses deep toned synths with heavy kicks for this banger, similar to the producers previous hit with G-Frsh Do It, the tune is powerful in feeling, perfect for one of the UK’s premier emcees to deliver his fast flowing rhymes. Wretch 32 does not dissapoint, “Look babe, I can make it thunder, might save the day if I save your number, might hate to wait babe wayne can wonder..and I ain’t like him, no..cah I’m nuttin’ like ya ex man, I’m suttin’ like an X Man, so assume I’m a mutant, I’m immune to the nuisance..”
The success of Wretchrospective brought him greater respect and acknowledgement as an artist, therefore allowing him to try something different, and linking up with Thy Maryan has given Wretch 32 just that.

The video, Directed by fellow emcee Scorcher and Staplehouse productions, offers a good visual for the track, personally I would have liked to have seen more, as both the track and the artist possess that mainstream quality, at the same time I feel that this video manages to capture the song in a mainstream light as well as having a street feel which is essential for urban artists.

As a whole this is a really good track from Wretch 32 and Thy Maryan, definitely one to push both higher and further into the deserved spotlight.

Loick Essien ..UK Stand Up!!

I was listening to Chipmunk – Beast ft. Loick Essien and wondered what other tracks Loick has, so found his myspace and there were two songs I had never heard, ‘Idol‘ and ‘Transformer‘, so I clicked play and began listening…

Idol:

It has a classic R&B feel, classic like something you would hear on an Usher album, a couple seconds in and it is sounding like an Usher song itself, not in the way of copied but more so in the way of presence and feel, it felt similar to Usher – Moving Mountains but better even, Loick sounds like a veteran the way he stretches notes and flows over the track so effortlessly.

Fáris Rating:
8/10

Transformer:

The concept alone is amazing, the track itself does the idea justice. The beat possesses a futuristic feel, the tempo is mellow and very R&B, Loick Essien commands the track perfectly with this complex delivery, the vocal effects in certain areas such as the chorus are minor but add depth to the song, I really like this song and will be confused if Loick Essien does not get received well in the USA…these tracks are that good!!

Fáris Rating:
9/10

I’m looking forward to hearing more from Loick Essien, these two tracks sound really good, they are comparable to the works of The Dream and Tricky Stewart, who together have a large collection of hits, on their own and projects for other artists, Loick as an artist has a lot of potential and if he continues to deliver songs of this quality and better, will no doubt be among the best in the business. Look out for Loick Essien, another young, British R&B talent ..UK Stand Up!!

Giggs – Slow Songs ft. The Streets

This song has been on repeat, BET award winner Giggs and Mike Skinner team up for this suprising collaboration, however, as unlikely the partnership may seem, the two work perfectly. Giggs maintains the style that has helped raise his profile, with reality cleverley crafted into clear and easy listening lyrics, this is Giggs at his finest and the Pecknarm representive does not dissappoint. The beat is basic but the sample and synths layered help form a route for the tracks journey to stay on course. Mike Skinner returns to our speakers with a verse that had me going back and listening to all the classic material from The Streets catalogue thus far.

In time this song will surely get more airplay and receive the recognition that it deserves, it is a massive track that could very well be the catalyst for a comeback from The Streets, in the mean time Slow Songs will help solidify Giggs’ position as one of the premier emcees/artists in the UK.

Sef – Takin’ Over

I do not understand how people still do not know about Sef, undoubtedly one of the best singers in the country, so I decided to share more with you all.

He originally broke onto the scene as part of the phenomenon that is So Solid Crew, he is now part of Music Kidz (founded by Mr Shabz, the producer behind many of So Solid’s hits including ‘Haters‘) who are signed to Jay-Z’s ROC Nation.

A new album from Sef is on the way, the first single is Need A Hero (video to be filmed soon), not many people know but Sef was signed to Atlantic records and has worked with the likes of Platinum selling Robin Thicke and singer/songwriter Sean Garret (who has written for Chris Brown, Janet Jackson, Usher, Britney Spears and Beyonce to name a few), so the talent he possesses cannot be denied.

This track is titled Takin’ Over,

TEEZY!!

If you have read the previous posts then you would have read my opinion on Teezy, he has all the potential to make a big impact on the mainstream, Teezy possesses many strengths in terms of entertainment value, already known as an outstanding performer, however, his recent appearance on the Tim Westwood show, offered Teezy a platform to prove that dancing is not his only talent.
