Marvell – Make Noise

The Marvell boys return with the much anticipated video for their single ‘Make Noise’ (Out 1st June).

Marvell have been making a name for themselves within the underground scene for a while now individually and as a collective with mixtapes such as Late Arrival, Moneys Da Motive and the latest offering Marvell FM, each one receiving high praises for it’s combination of innovation, creativity and entertainment values.

Make Noise is the first single to be released, and the single itself is making a lot of noise as they rise further up in the game. The video is already a regular on TV, with many requesting the video proving they have a strong following.

The track is compiled with a beat that makes it’s presence known, a synth that brings pace into the track, perfectly complimented by the flow from all three emcees, Shocka leads and delivers another metaphorically driven verse, full of lyrical ability and wit, Vertex then steps up and delivers on point, obviously the fasted out of the three (if not the fastest in the scene) Double S runs side by side of the melody with the third verse adding heavily to keeping the impact of the song consistent from start to finish. I really feel that it has the same attributes as Kano – P’s & Q’s in terms of cross-over appeal, Marvell manage to come across aggressive whilst maintaining an ear-friendly sound.

Visually, directed by Vertex himself (who notably also directed the video for The Noisettes – Don’t Upset the Rhythm), it is a combination of professionalism and a youthful mind, it provides the same enjoyable feel as the track and therefore the two compliment each other, complete with effects and an Eddie Kadi cameo, Vertex is certainly making noise as one of the best prospects in the direction field.

Overall, Make Noise will is set to elevate the fly boys to further heights, they certainly deserve it with the hard work and determination that they put in but more with the talent they possess and the quality material that Marvell is delivering.

Shifty

The UK urban scene continues to rise to new heights with both music and movies.

This is the trailer for the new British movie ‘Shifty’:

Shifty, looks different and past the stereotypical movies in past, a good cast and direction offers what looks certain to be a quality movie.

Here is the video for Riz MC (who is also the lead actor in the film) featuring Sway & Plan B (Plan B goes hard on this one) with the title song from the official movie soundtrack.

A good track to accompany the movie, British cinema and music is currently witnessing a wave dominated with Urban acts, many doors are being opened for the quality that we possess to no longer be looked over.

Bashy – Ransom ft. Scorcher & Wretch 32

A little while back, an image of British artist Bashy emerged, he appeared to have cuts and bruises, awareness was initially made when a Facebook message from Bashy’s fan page was sent, the message was apparently from an angry Bashy who had been attacked, the name Terry Ambrose was mentioned heavily, many believed that Bashy had indeed been attacked.

The image appeared again, courtesy of Urban entertainment’s finest duo, Ace & Vis, who posted the picture on their blog but with a less worrying caption.

Not much was said about this image for a while, Bashy’s blog continued as normal, a new post showing an image of an equation featuring ‘Bashy, Wretch 32, Scorcher + A black van’. Bashy then posted the image of his with the cuts and bruises, many now believed that this a real incident that took place.

Now, a new song and accompanying video has been posted for a track titled Ransom, featuring Scorcher & Wretch 32. This shows that the alledged attack was really a hoax and more so publicity for this new song, talk was always there as many fans have felt that Bashy would lose respect if it is indeed a publicity stunt, but after watching the video, I really cannot say anything but WELL DONE to Bashy, he has put out probably one of the best track and video I have seen in a while, subject wise it is as real and gripping as Kidulthood to Adulthood, even better to be honset.

‘Ransom’ is a display of three of the UK’s premier artists, both as emcees and actors even, Scorcher and Wretch 32 are suprisingly as natural as actors as the are rappers, the fact that is a Part One (it is part of a feature film) has me eager to see more, the three put in one hell of a performance, Scorcher is a highlight on this song, for some reason his tone and persona dominates over the beat, Bashy and Wretch 32 match it well, the video visualises the song to it’s best ability.

As a movie, the earlier message and images of Bashy’s alledged attack unfold as Ashley ‘Bashy’ Thomas actually plays the character of Terry Ambrose, featuring Tayo ‘Scorcher’ Jarret as ‘Junior’, Jermaine ‘Wretch 32’ Scott has a double role as ‘Frankie’ and Terry Ambrose’s Co-D ‘Terry’. As a movie ‘Ransom’ delivers a hard-hitting storyline with great detail, great performers with great delivery, a certified ‘one to watch’ as it is captivating and will undoubtly amaze audiences when seen.

Pitbull – Blanco ft. Pharrell

Pharell Williams is obviously associated with big beats and hit records, however, along with Chad Hugo, The Neptunes have always had a special relationship with Miami rapper Pitbull, proof of this special collaboration comes along as they team up once again this time for the Fast & Furious 4 soundtrack with the song Blanco.

The track is a lively party song, it has a fast flowing feel-good factor to it, Pharrell providing the hook, Blanco looks set to bubble up nicely to surface in many clubs and house parties alike.

Blanco has been given a boost with the ‘fly on the wall’ style video, an almost ‘life in the day of’ concept, as we follow Pitbull through a crazy night, filled with hot woman and plenty of drinks. Fitting the high lifestyle shown in scenes during the new Fast & Furious movie, this song compliments those moments in the movie extremely well, almost perfectly.

The video has a mix of excitement and humour to it, which only emphasises the feeling that the song puts across, Blanco will most likely be on many people’s summer playlists.

Young Money – Every Girl

After claiming 2008 as his own, The phenomenon that is Lil’ Wayne returns, this time to put his Young Money affiliates under that constant spotlight that the Carter III has helped place upon him.

Introducing Drake (a serious contender for future superstar), Jae Millz (reaping the benefits of his grind), Gudda and Wayne’s long-standing friend and business partner Mack Maine.

The song itself is created to gain attention, to help the transition of these artists under Lil’ Waynes Young Money label, the use of auto tune is higher among the other artists in a bid to have them stand out and have identity of their own, it is more a feel good, light-hearted track which no doubt is the ear opener for some realness that will follow as a Young Money group album is said to be on the way (to be released the same day as Wayne’s rock album ‘Rebirth’).

I think this is a good track for the reason it was made, every artist is given a chance to shine and they all did the job, it will most definitely promote Young Money as more than just what Lil’ Wayne says before a track, the label possesses a talented roster and will not get the same attention anywhere else but with Young Money.

I guess it really is “Young Moula baby!!”

Introducing The Talent that is TEEZY!!

Teezy, i remember seeing his video for Take Your Shoes Off on the then named Channel U (Now Channel AKA for those that do not know), but at the time, I was not sure what to expect, I knew he could dance but the song felt generic (in my opinion).

However, I recently saw a video of him perform it live and my opinion swayed heavily, i would pay good money to see such a performance, check it out yourself:

More than a dancer, Teezy was born to perform, his personality and confidence combined make him stand out and what annoys me is that if this was America, Teezy would be everywhere as the next best thing, Chris Brown was well received when people knew that his strongest point was his ability to dance rather than his voice, yet in this country it seems like people are blind to it, I turn on the TV and I’m watching MTV Base and I see all kinds of American acts, don’t get me wrong..I like some of them, but surely BASE could play his new video Tootsie Roll

(I’m eager to hear that track at the end, Wizzy Wow!)

I guess that goes for most UK urban acts, is it us as an audience, are we not making enough of a fuss to see more of own home-grown acts?

Regardless, this review is about Teezy and his talents as an up and coming star for us to be proud of.

Teezy has the talent (both as a rapper and a dancer), he possesses a fresh flow, and if Tootsie Roll is anything to go by, he definitely can get a party started with such anthems, he also has a personality that he brings to the performance, he would be a asset to our charts, it’s urban, it’s young, it’s fun, what more could you want?

After speaking to him briefly, someone with so much talent has not let the rising fame get to him, he is down to earth, easily approachable, like many of the stars in the making in our country, like Bluey Robinson and Marvell, they are level-headed guys just enjoying what they do and thankful for what they have.

(Random note: MTV Bass is playing Newham Generals – Head Get Mangeled, but i wonder who else is watching this at 3am?)

I look forward to hearing more from Teezy as i’m sure anyone that enjoys real fresh sounding music will be, check out his myspace for more on another rising talent.

For those that want to experience the live performance that he brings, then 17th April at the Indigo o2

Shout out to Cyco Logic and the Down Wid It movement!

Mr Space-Boy Fly himself, who produced and is featured on Wretch 32’s hit ‘Be Cool’, is a talented producer and artist and big things are expected, If you want to know what the scene will sound like in the future?..just listen to his present work.

Lady Ny – Dangerous

Lady Ny has been consistent within the scene, with a voice to match her looks, she fits the word beautiful just right.

She is back, and with a banger, the track ‘Dangerous’ will be available for you all to hear soon and take my word for it, it is a hit.

Lady Ny – DANGEROUS (Exclusive Snippet)

Dangerous is catchy to say the least, it’s a fusion of sounds that can be labeled in multi-genres. “I’m about to explode, I’m Dangerous”, Lady Ny’s voice is smooth as ever and combined with the production, it really has an edge to it, it is urban but it’s easy listening values mean it could so easily be lighting up the charts, given the right promotion this could be a big hit for Lady Ny (She does deserve it).

Production wise, ‘Dangerous’ possess the funky house vibe that is currently blazing the country, you can’t help but to move to it, when this comes on in the clubs, even those that cannot dance will be moving someway or another. Obviously a voice for the Ladies, Lady Ny has a strong vocal presence on this song and it is such a feel good song that it really does have the power to break down any barriers, So the male audience can appreciate this as much as the ladies.

“Does it have to be, Something that I see, Or can I feel it..I’ll be just fine, and Do you even know..anything at all, What I’m thinking deeply down inside”

Keep an ear out for Lady Ny and this sure hit, I’ll be back with the track soon.
