Sean Paul – So Fine

Jamican Dancehall sensation Sean Paul ends his 5 years hiatus with the release of So Fine, the first single from his forthcoming album Imperial Blaze.

To be honest, Sean Paul did not leave us completely, features with Pretty Ricky, Da’ville and Eve kept him prominent, however, the fans wanted more. ‘So Fine’ puts the Dutty Rock artist back into the spotlight, it is a new sound for Sean Paul, yet possesses the essences that he sounds best on, a party track, So Fine fits the summer well, a clever release no doubt. So Fine is similar to his previous releases, slightly faster in tempo and sounding more ‘electric’, Produced by Stephen “Di Genius” McGregor, the track is crafted with layers of claps and heavy kicks, the beat varies whilst the strong synth commands as SP flows how we like with the catchy rhymes, “Just Let Me Be There For You Anytime…You’re So Fine, For You I’d Join The Longest Line…You’re So Fine”. Sean Paul is not making a comeback, more so returning from where he left off in a bid to maintain his status to then proceed further.

I like this song, it will blazing over the summer, sounding good at the BBQ, through your headphones or on the radio, definitely a good return from Sean Paul.

4th July, My Birthday!!

As today is my birthday, I thought to share some birthday themed tunes, could only find three though:

Obviously, this song always does the trick at birthday parties, “Go Shawty, It’s Your Birthday..”, next is a more unorthadox choice:

Like I said, unorthadox, however the next and final one is the most obvious, most probably the first song that comes to mind when it comes to ‘birthdays’:

Oh and as a random bonus:

Take care World!

10 QUESTIONS with: BLUEY ROBINSON

photo

20 Year old singer/songwriter and performer ‘Bluey Robinson’ has been creating quite a name for himself, his recently launched YouTube channel (BlueyRobinsonTV) has over eleven thousand views, whilst his myspace page has just under 200,000 plays, to add to that his new single ‘I Know’ has made it onto Radio 1 playlisting which is adding to the already present buzz surrounding this young South East London talent.

In a bid to get to know more of the man himself, I managed to catch up with the rising star and asked him 10 questions, enjoy.

Q1) HOW DID YOU GET INTO MUSIC?

“I’ve kinda alway’s been involved in music.. I’ve never really not been interested or not sung or wrote songs. It’s always just felt like something I was supposed to do, However, only up until about 5 or 6 years ago did I really start trying to perfect my craft. I took it upon myself to learn about the industry, understand who I really was as an artist and work out how I would best present myself to the world.”

Q2) HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?

“I just try to be me.. Wear what I wanna wear.. Sing how I wanna sing.. do the kinda music that feels good to me. I’ve never really been one for scenes and genre’s.. Just makes me feel restricted!”

Q3) WHO ARE YOUR INSPIRATIONS AND INFLUENCES?

“I tend to get inspired by weird and wonderful things that occur in every day life. Anything that stands out and disrupts the monotonous and robotic system of 21st century living is always fun ..and on many occasions is a difficult and brave thing to attempt. I am greatly influenced by Art.. Pop culture.. Human behaviour.. Space travel, the theory of alternate dimensions.. Conspiracy theories, Cult classic films and comic books. Also, I have a great interest in other artists and figures such as; Michael Jackson, Bruce Lee, Muhammed Ali, Andre 3000, Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, Malcolm X, Kanye West and Freddy Mercury. Just to name a few!”

Q4) WHAT DOES BLUEY ROBINSON OFFER TO THE INDUSTRY?

“I guess I offer myself and my passion. I believe strongly in developing and building your own character. Becoming the biggest and best you you can be! I have a natural want and desire to break barriers, change peoples way of thinking and inspire. So I guess therefore I will offer something I think the world needs. I will be out to make my presence felt and make a difference, an honest difference.. however possible.
Whether it be through Music, Performance, Speech or some other drastic and unconventional means, if I think it will work, I will more than likely do it! ..Be passionate!

Confidence in yourself can take u where you need to be, and you must believe in you, your abilities and your message.”

Q5) WHAT MAKES YOU STAND OUT FROM OTHER ARTISTS?

“Alot of the above, and also the fact that I live in the moment, trying to make the most of any situation.. Enjoying life to the full and experiencing all I can.”

Q6) WHAT CAN WE LOOK FORWARD TO FROM BLUEY ROBINSON IN THE FUTURE AND WHEN?

“We have decided on the first single to be ‘I know’. Not too sure exactly when it will be released but it’s in preparation. Also I’m still working on my first album, It’s going really well and I’m excited! It’s all independent at the moment so is a bit of an uphill struggle, but I know it will eventually come together. The working title is ‘The Rising Sun'”

Q7) IF YOU COULD WORK WITH ANY ARTIST, WHO WOULD IT BE?

“There’s a few.. But I’d love to work with Andre 3000, when the times right.”

Q8) IF YOU COULD WORK WITH ANY PRODUCER, WHO WOULD IT BE?

“The producer I’ve been working with is seriously soon to become the best producer the industry has.. ‘Labrinth’, but apart from that guy.. I guess I could only say Quincy (Quincy Jones)”

Q9) WHAT DOES BLUEY ROBINSON LIKE TO DO IN HIS SPARE TIME?

“Make music.
Watch anime films.
Research something enlightening on youtube..
Travel (though I have not done too much of that yet)
Talk to new people
Talk to friends
Go to the cinema
Go to Fstreet.
Go outside.
Go and watch some kind of live performance.
Anything that feels new and exciting.”

Q10) IF YOU WERE NOT A SINGER, WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING?

“Going to MI5 to hand in my C.V”

Bluey Robinson does not just have the talent, but the passion to pursue his ambitions, his talent cannot be denied and his style cannot be defied, a truly unique individual with a bright future.

SEF – Need A Hero (D-Boy Remix) ft. Des-C

Sef teams up with Des-C for the D-Boy remix of his summer smash ‘Need A Hero’.

I first heard this at the video shoot and instantly knew this was another hit just by the sheer impact alone, I don’t even see this is a ‘Bhangra’ remix, it has that essence to it and you could argue that it is made for that audience, however, D-Boy cleverly crafts the remix with a blend of sounds which together offer a universal appeal, it stays true to its roots yet embraces an all round fun feeling. Des-C brings his own twist and does it well, providing a good contrast to Sef’s vocals. This D-Boy remix is almost addictive, the partial sample and the bridge of the song really give the remix it’s own individuality, separating it from most remixes and at the same time displaying D-Boy’s evident talent.

Ozzie B – Strongest Drink ft. Double S

Ozzie B is definitely not slacking, After the banger About Time, the More Fire and Great Minds Think Alike artist put out the club anthem Maybee Ting (Video coming soon), only to then give us what could be many people’s anthem for the summer with ‘Strongest Drink’.

Featuring the fast-rising emcee Double S (of Marvell), this funky number is a capable to get any party going, the concept is fun, the lyrics are easy to understand and vibe to, the production possesses that feel good factor, you cannot help but to move along to it. Double S continues to elevate his position further, with his quick flow and witty lyrics, “You’re smart..you don’t need no diploma, but really you should dip low..ma!”.

Ozzie B and his collective ‘Great Minds Think Alike‘ (GMTA), are continuously pushing themselves in order to get the best, Ozzie has really displayed his ability in terms of diversity with the likes of ‘Maybee Ting’ and ‘Strongest Drink’, whilst About Time serves an ace for the more introspective Grime fan.

J2K – Danger

Roll Deep emcee and one of the most underrated from the scene, J2K returns with Danger, the first single from his solo effort ‘The Wake Up EP’.

J2K has always stood out and his ability has never been doubted, fans and peers alike know he possesses plenty potential. With many of the artists establishing themselves further, it is now time for J2K to cement his position within the elite as an artist, Danger certainly has the sound to do so, the beat is a combination of a quick rhythm drum pattern laced with a mid-tempo synth, together the track becomes pacey but sounds like it is keeping up with J2K’s flow, as he rides the beat with ease, his flow remains steady, whilst the lyrical pattern is precise to the beat.

Danger will be blasting through headphones, home speakers and club amps within no time, with it’s versatile sound and appeal.

Fáris Rating:
8/10

The song at the end of the video emphasizes J2K’s mission to stake his claim as one of the best artists in the country (deservedly so), it gives you an insight into the quality of material to further expect from the Roll Deep member.

ART: Takashi Murakami

I am a big fan of Murakami’s work, he is most famous for his work with Louis Vuitton, Pharrell Williams and Kanye West.

One of my favourite pieces of art work by Murakami is actually the single cover for Kanye West – Can’t Tell Me Nothing

Kanye West X Takeshi Murakami

The colours and effects really compliment each other on this stand-out piece, the central image is well created and it’s construction provides a lot of depth, it is far more than an arrangement of colourful swirls.

murakami - Gero

This ‘Geno’ piece, highlights Murakami’s intense detail and choice of potent colours, the beauty of such work is that they speak volumes, the clusters of colours and shapes, they create the bigger picture, the symbolism is vividly embedded as Murakami offers his portrayal of life.

The idea of the bright and attractive as the evil trapping us, in the form of a monster-like character, it is his unique style of portrayal which places Takashi Murakami among the elite in art.

takashi-murakami

He recently collaborated with Pharrell Williams, to create a piece representing the real value of items we take for granted.

murakami-pharrell-jacob-jeweler-sculpture-5-150x150

The sculpture titled ‘The Simple Things’, was created with the help of ‘Jacob The Jeweler’ (Jacob & Co.), featuring seven consumer objects that Pharrell Williams considers important to him, such as a cupcake, a bag of Doritos, a bottle of Heinz ketchup, a Pepsi can, a sneaker, a condom, and a bottle of Johnson’s baby oil, all created with gold and encrusted with 26,000 rubies, sapphires, emeralds, and diamonds by Jacob. The objects/items are all placed in the mouth of the Murakami sculpture. ‘The Simple Things’ sold for €2 million ($2.8 million). An extremely expensive piece of art created to show the true value of items that we take for granted.

Takashi Murakami is an established and world-reknowned artist who is also one of the few to expand into fashion and music with his innovative and inspiring art.

Robin Thicke – Human Nature (Michael Jackson Tribute)

I know there have been a few and will be many more tributes to come, One of the most popular is The one with The Game, Chris Brown, Diddy and BoyzIIMen, there is also an amazing one by UK’s own Sway, but the following gives an idea of something I thought of yesterday.

I wondered that rather than refunding the tickets for the 50 shows, would it not be good if the best in the industry performed the classics in tribute, the likes of Ne-Yo, R. Kelly, Usher, Ginuwine, Sisqo, Justin Timberlake, Omarion and even Chris Brown, then i began to think which songs they could cover (Who deserves to perform Billie Jean?), then I came across this clip of Robin Thicke singing to Human Nature in tribute and I guess that is the song he could perform, seeing as he does it so well.

Here is another version:

After watching this I think Chris Brown’s voice would be best suited to perform ‘In The Closet’:

But then he has already (sort of) performed Billie Jean (05:18), Although I still think Usher or Ginuwine are more suited:

Let me know what you think, would it be a good idea? ..if so, who would you like to see and covering which song?
